classic consoles for really tiny gamers

Check out these tiny little clay versions of video game consoles and their controllers. They’re so small that they’ll literally fit in the palm of your hand.

tiny_clay_game_consoles

These tiny consoles may look like the work of Dr. Shrinker (or maybe Dr. Reducto), but the teeny weeny Xbox, Xbox 360, NES (and matching controller earrings) are actually the product of polymer clay artist Lauren of TheClayCollection. They may be just a hair larger than a penny, but each manages to capture the distinct styling and colors of these classic consoles.

Don’t see your favorite console here? That’s okay, because Lauren can custom make mini consoles, controllers and even mini-games based on your special requests. Me? I’d like to see her crank out a tiny Vectrex, or maybe a Fairchild Channel F.

You can find Lauren’s current clay collection over on Etsy.

pac-man gets cross-stitched, tiny

Here’s another photo that proves the equation Craft + Pac-Man = Awesome. You’ve got to hand it to the artist who created this amazingly precise cross-stitch version of the characters from the 1980s Namco arcade classic.

ac-man_cross_stitch

Created by Flickr contributor EverySpoon, the tiny cross-stitch features detailed renditions of Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde, Pac-Man and some delicious cherry treats. Made with surgical precision, every little stitch is a pixel-for-pixel perfect rendition of the original game characters.

the world’s smallest nintendo ds lite

Check out this tiny papercraft model of an ice blue Nintendo DS Lite created by a really dedicated (and really patient) gaming fan. Even though it’s only slightly larger than a paper clip, this mini DS Lite features an a amazing amount of detail.

apercraft_nintendo_ds2

With a steady hand, some glue, a knife and a couple of other office supplies, artist SonicScape Jun created this tiny little DS. Incredibly, the petite DS even features a working hinged case (held together with a toothpick), and even has a teensy little Nintendogs cartridge you can plug into it.

If you’re feeling ambitious (and have tiny fingers), you can grab a PDF of the templates to make your own mini DS Lite right here.

Good luck with all that.

tetris afghan crochet keeps you toasty

Crocheted by Flickr member SheriB626, the handmade throw is plenty big enough to cover up even the most die-hard couch potato. Sheri describes the intricately crafted blanket as “My most epic project to date. Made for someone I loved very much, who then broke my heart. The only thing I asked him to give back was this. Damn straight.”

It’s a sad tale of love, loss, heartbreak and video games… and of course Sheri gets extra points for using my favorite word, “Epic”. Sheri, I’m sure there’s a dedicated Tetris fan somewhere out there who will truly appreciate your efforts and never leave you for Columns or Lumines.

One of the greatest boxing games of all time has been immortalized in wearable form. This oh-so-awesome handknit scarf features the fighters from the NES classic Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!

mike_tyson_punchout_scarf

Created by El Paso crafter Beatboxtaun, the scarf features the likenesses of two of the game’s pixelated pugilists. At $175, it’s not cheap, but the scarf represents many, many hours of hand crocheting.

If you want to be the proud owner, you better head on over to Etsy, since this is a one-of-a-kind piece.

super mario hidden quilt level scores extra points

If you’ve got a serious Mario addiction, you might just have to break open your piggy bank for this. This fun quilt features the likenesses of Mario and his foes in the context of the NES platformer that really put the little Italian plumber on the map.

super_mario_quilt_secret_level

It looks like Mario just hopped out of his green drain pipe, only to have to face a tough decision. Should he go for the gold coin, flip the Koopa and toss his shell, or squash that Goomba? Oh, life’s little decisions. Why not go for all three in a spectacular display of dexterity?

mario_quilt_detail

The 64-inch square quilt was sewn by the fine folks at Carolina Patchworks (makers of the most-excellent Galaga and Zelda quilts). If you just have to have this on your bed, gather up your gold coins ($350 of ‘em) and jump on over to Etsy before its gone.

pac-man gets stuffed

Who says arcade cabinets need to be made out of wood and metal? Why can’t they be soft and squishy? That’s what this crafter thought when she created this fun plush Pac-Man machine.

ac_man_stuffed

Created by Lady Harvatine, the stuffed arcade machine captures the spirit of some of my fondest arcade memories. Inspired by these most excellent papercraft arcade creations, she set off to create her own unique spin on the arcade classic. The centerpiece of the squishy system has to be the piece of retro Pac-Man fabric that a friend of hers scrounged up for the screen.

dog_on_pac-man_plush

Affectionately known as “Pac-y”, the plush arcade machine has a stuffed joystick and two coin slots that actually will eat your coins (there’s a zipper in the back that lets you retrieve your money).

The machine is the first of the Lady’s “Harvacade” collection. I’m hoping for some Donkey Kong or Dig Dug next.

usb flash memory offers fuzzy, buggy storage

USB memory sticks are a dime a dozen these days, so you’ve really got to stand out from the crowd if you want to get noticed. These soft, fuzzy critters will definitely latch on to your digital memories in a way you won’t soon forget.

maggie_usb_worm

Designed by artist Nifer Fahrion of NifNaks, these invertebrate USB drives are handmade using wool felting techniques. Her creations include such charming characters as Maggie the Maggot and Gizzy the Data Worm.

izzy_data_worm

According to Fahrion, “Maggie is smart as a whip, and can recite pages and pages of poetry… Maggie is very calm and patient and loves to solve problems. She strives to fill her life with the new and fresh in her life, and this reflects in her eating habits too. Maggie can be found dining at all the new trendy restaurants every night, and has even been occasionally accused of being a food snob. She makes a loyal and loving friend to anyone who will have her.”

On the other hand, “Gizzy will astound you with his ability to remember things – 4 gigabytes worth, in fact! He loves super tart gumballs, and won’t eat anything orange. He enjoys bungee jumping, but most days he’s content just to sit around and read a book. Gizzy is of course an amazing speller and will knock your socks of in Scrabble.” Being one to frequently assign personalities to the inanimate objects around me, I can certainly relate.

Each data worm stores 4GB, and prices range from $66 to $68 each. Since each NifNaks creature is handmade, expect to wait about 10 days to get your hands on one.

plush retro macintosh computer

ohailolledLook at this fun squeezy Mac plush toy, made by talented crafter Maitreya over at craftlog. The idea was borne out of a need for a baby shower gift for a computer scientist and bioinformaticist. Being a nostalgic girl and Apple fan, the idea to make this old school design came naturally to her.

Bonus: this was a patternless, freestyle creation. And since her kitty wouldn’t leave the computer alone, Maitreya made a lolcat out of him!

I think that hand-embroidered, multi-colored Apple logo down in the bottom left corner proves that it was made with love. What a special baby gift!
