blu-ray makeup: i couldn’t make this sh*t up

In what could be the final death-blow to the floundering HD DVD format, Hollywood actors can now cover up all their nasty facial flaws with this new makeup line, specifically designed for hiding imperfections on high definition video shoots.

blu_ray_makeu

Despite its name, Cargo’s Blu-ray makeup isn’t what the Blue Man Group puts on before a show. The collection was actually created because, according to its maker, “life happens in high definition”. It’s perfect for those performers who don’t want every pore, wrinkle and zit to show up larger than life on all those new 70-inch LCD Full HD screens.

I’m not sure if Sony sanctioned the makeup’s naming convention, but it surely can’t be too upset — after all, they could have named it after HD DVD. Hollywood has spoken, and I think we have a winner.

anti pac-man: you control the ghosts

Here’s an interesting concept, what if Pac-Man’s gameplay were the exact opposite of what you’ve come to expect after all these years. That is to say, what if, instead of Pac-Man being chased by ghosts, you controlled the ghosts and Pac-Man came after you. That’s exactly the idea of this new Flash game called “Anti Pac-Man”.

anti_pac-man

The concept is simple. Think of it like a squad based version of Pac-Man. Use the keys numbered 1 through 4 to take command of each ghost, then use the arrow keys to guide them away from your yellow dot-gobbling nemesis. As Pac-Man eats up, your score keeps going down, but if you can keep your ghosts alive, you can minimize the damage.

Maybe it’s the annoying loop of the Pac-Man theme that plays over and over again, but I find the whole thing a bit unsettling. You be the judge and check it out for yourself over at Sugar Free Games.

strange speakers look like little dead guy

It’s been a while since I’ve seen speakers that looked quite this strange. Designed to be your “little dead desktop buddy”, they look like something that your neighborhood dominatrix might have sitting next to her computer.

dead_bbudd_speakers

The oddly-named Dutch Dead Bbudd speaker system looks like some sort of naugahyde-wrapped dude with his eyes X’d out. The speakers are embedded into his feet, pumping out the tunes as he sits on your desk.

dead_buddy_closeu

As Bbudd is a dead guy, it only makes sense that he’s a passive (non-amplified) speaker system. So if you like your speakers a little on the kinky side, you can grab the little dead guy over at Kado-Fix for €24,95 (appx. $38 USD).

mario corset is a fierce hot tranny mess

nintendo_corsetOk, this has got to be the most wacky Nintendo-inspired item I’ve seen in a long time ever. Apparently somebody out there with a serious Mario fetish has decided to create a corset using his likeness. Huh? Wha?

I know, it’s as strange as it sounds. Covered with rare 1980s Super Mario Brothers fabric, this oddity was created by TheVintageDoctor. Complete with a lace-up back with metal grommets, Mario will help you keep your waistline in check in case you gobble down one too many 1UP ’shrooms.

Either way, it’s a one-of-a-kind item, which is probably just fine since I can’t imagine there’s too much demand for Nintendo undergarments. But, to each his (or her) own, I suppose. If you just have to have this, head on over to Etsy and grab it before it’s gone.

mp3 players are for lovers

lovers_mp3You and your significant other might have different tastes in music, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be close with your shmoopy. With this matching pair of MP3 players, you can listen to different tracks, but still be joined at the hip.

The interlocking Lovers MP3 players come together to form a single red heart, but can be played separately when you’re apart. And if you end up breaking things off with your partner, you still get to keep your tunes — a much better solution than cutting the iPod in half.

Just in time for Valentines’ Day to be over, you can grab the pair of 1GB media players from DealExtreme for about $39.

mario gets real (weird)

realmario_pixelooWhat if Mario weren’t a cartoony video game character? Artist Pixeloo set out to answer that question when creating this “realistic” rendering of Nintendo’s little Italian plumber.

While it’s some pretty amazing graphic work, “real” Mario isn’t quite as endearing as he’s been in previous incarnations. Created by compositing a variety of real facial details and textures in Photoshop CS2 on top of a 3D model from Nintendo, the guy is just plain creepy.

I can’t decide if it’s the scraggly facial hair or the bulbous, slightly bloodshot eyeballs that will keep me up tonight. This is definitely not the kind of Mario that you’d want your kids playing with.
